Some Must-Try Dishes From Bengali Cuisine

Bengali cuisine, which includes food from both West Bengal and East Bengal i.e, Bangladesh, is very vibrant. The war is always on between Chingri and Hilsa, which fish is better in both the places. Here is a list of famous must-try dishes from the rich cuisine of Bengal. 

1. ALOO POSTO:

Aloo i.e, potato is a very important part of Bengali cuisine. Apart from dum aloo, it can also be eaten as posto. It is a creamy and delicious gravy with lots of aloo in it.

2. MURIGHONTO:

Talking about Bengali cuisine we cannot ignore Fish. It is a dish made with Fish head and daal.

3. SHUKTO:

 It is made with lots of veggies and mustard. This can be eaten as a regular dish at lunch because it is very healthy.

4. POTHAR MANGSHO AND LUCHI:

Mutton curry and luchi { similar to bhatura} is a great combination. During the Durga Puja, if you visit your Bengali friend’s place, you can expect this item on the menu.

5. CHINGRI DAAB:

Who doesn’t like prawn? If it comes with some flavor of raw coconut, it tastes heavenly.

6. HILSA MAACH BHAPA:

This is mainly from East Bengal, which is now Bangladesh. The steamed fish is a must-try from Bengali cuisine. Apart from fish, this dish contains lots of mustard powder.

7. TOMATO TOK:

This is a tangy chutney made with tomato. It is perfect to have with luchi or khichdi.

8. KHICHDI:

For many people, it is food for patients. However, the Bengali style khichdi is so tasty that it will prove this to be a myth.  Khichdi is also offered to Durga Devi as Bhog during puja days.
